EPS Young Minds - Empowering Women In Physics

On Saturday 18 th of December 2021, Planets In Your Hand team participated in the event of EPS Young Minds team of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, titled «Empowering Women In Physics». The visitors took a virtual tour of our Solar System, through Planets In Your Hand interactive exhibition and had the chance to observe Jupiter and its Galilean moons with the telescope of the University of Athens Observatory.

City Lab

On December 11th and 12th 2021, Planets In Your Hand team had the pleasure of hosting the students of the CityLab Educational Robotics Center. The young visitors “touched” the planets of our Solar System, talked with the member of our team about the conditions on each planet and asked impressive questions.

12th Conference of Science Teaching and Technology in Education

On Saturday 20 th of November 2021, the interactive exhibition «Planets In Your Hand» was hosted at Marasleio School of Education during the 12th Conference of Science Teaching and Technology in Education, which was organized by the Association for Education in Science and Technology. The participants, most of whom where educators, experienced a virtual tour to our Solar System and had the opportunity to observe an innovative, award-winning educational activity. The discussions that took place between the Planets In Your Hand team members and the participants were very interesting. The participants expressed enthusiasm about the idea of the interactive exhibition and its implementation. The team was represented by the project’s coordinator Kosmas Gazeas, the PhD students Sevi Karampotsiou, Dimitris Athanasopoulos and Sophie Palafouta and by the postgraduate students Konstantina Vrontaki, Kostas Margetis, Despoina Barbari and Maria Panagopoulou.

Kastellorizo ​​Puzzle Festival 2021

The "Planets In Your Hand" team participates in the Kastellorizo Puzzle Festival, which is held in Kastellorizo on September 24-26, 2021. The exhibition representing the surfaces of the planets of the Solar System will travel for the first time to a remote area of Greece. Astronomical quizzes, telescope observations and celestial navigation activities will complete the group's activities. In a celebration of science of particular importance due to its location, our team will be represented by Dr. Kosmas Gazeas, Konstantina Vrontaki and Maria Panagopoulou.

ATRAKTOS CAMP

The participation of the team "Planets In Your Hand" team in this year's ATRAKTOS CAMP gave the opportunity to the young audience, aged 8-12 years, to travel in the Solar System in a pleasant and creative way. Models of the "Planets In Your Hand&" exhibition were presented at the event, accompanied by a speech by Dr. Kosmas Gazeas for about space exploration. The team members Sophie Palafouta, Konstantina Vrontaki and Maria Panagopoulou conducted activities such as interactive quizzes and constructions.

Online talk by Dr. Kosmas Gazeas the Association of Amateur Astronomy of Viotia (copy 1)

In collaboration with the Association of Amateur Astronomy of Viotia, Dr. Kosmas Gazeas gave a live web talk on "The creation of the Solar System". The broadcast was done via the Zoom platform, and after its completion, the participants were allowed to ask questions and discuss with the speaker. In the speech, the actions of "Planets In Your Hand" team, regarding the planets and the creation of the Solar System, were presented. The event remains available to the public via the link below.

Athens Science Festival - ASF2021

Many of the events organized at the Athens Science Festival 2021 were held online, due to the special health conditions. The science communication team "Planets In Your Hand" has created an interactive website on the subject of the Solar System. The site remains active and visitors can make an imaginary journey to the planets of our stellar neighborhood. You can go to it from the home page of "Planets In Your Hand" via the "Click In Solar System" option in the menu, selecting the corresponding image.

Online talk by Dr. Kosmas Gazeas at the Friends of Astronomy Club in Thessaloniki

Under the auspices of the Friends of Astronomy Club of Thessaloniki, Dr. Kosmas Gazeas gave a live internet talk on the celebration of the 21 years of operation of the University of Athens Observatory (UOAO). Τhe research and educational work that the Observatory has offered during this period were presented, along with the programs
(research and educational) it actively participates until today. Special emphasis was given to the activities organized by the "Planets In Your Hand" team.
